Nepal, 2000

This image of a young Tharu girl perched on a post of a traditional long house appeared in an article on rapid change in Nepal. It was used to symbolize how the nation seemed to hover between past and future. “You know,” Steber says “photographs have a big job to do. They have to convey all kinds of things…they have to capture a moment or a sense of the place. I was fortunate to be walking through a village when I saw this little girl. That's how Nepal was...these small glimpses of little miracles that graced each day...magical.”
