Teenage Brain, 2011

To make this image representing the seeking of new experiences, Cahana staked out a spot behind people spraying blasts of fluorescent paint down on the dancing crowds. Despite her best efforts to shield her camera, she emerged “head to toe looking pretty close to what a lot of these teens look like in this image.”

A hallmark of adolescence is searching for new experiences. For Austin Brown (center) the Dayglow event, dubbed “the world’s largest paint party,” was just such an opportunity. “If you weren't dancing, you were just standing there covered in paint," Brown said. The hunt for novelty can help teens find their path. A concertgoer since high school, Brown now studies lighting design in college.
