New York's High Line, 2011

“In our all too prevalent ‘throw away’ society, I am really happy when I can do a story about reclamation. The High Line in New York City is a brilliant repurposing of a defunct elevated rail line.”

At the time Cook was working on the story, only the first section of the new park was complete and open to the public. The area where this image of the 4th of July fireworks over the Hudson River was made was still in derelict condition. “I wanted to show, if this section of the High Line got approved for renovation, that there were these incredible views. I think the High Line folks used this picture to help convince the city and the railroad to complete the park.”
