Green Roofs, 2009
This green roof was installed on the terrace outside the penthouse office of Cook + Fox Architects in Manhattan. The architectural firm specializes in green buildings and the designers wanted their own space to showcase a more sustainable approach to urban living.
This was the first green roof Cook visited for the assignment. “I was really blown away by the view the designers had to look at while they worked, this classic view of the Empire State building and the fabulous field of high altitude sedums. When I walked out onto the roof and saw the reflection, it was a ‘eureka’ moment. You know what the view is from the reflection and I didn’t need to be so literal. In fact, I’m always looking for ways to be more subtle and metaphorical.”
