Lessons of the Hunt, 2007
Beverly and Dereck Joubert first encountered this leopard when she was only days old and ended up following her for nearly five years This particular image is a favorite because of it shows Legadema in what Beverly terms the “beautiful time,” when the eight-month-old cub was still being tended by her mother. “She seemed to be in this wonderful place of having both joy and love. Her mother gave her every bit of her attention. It was blissful, of course it changed a lot later.”
This playful act of a cub, springing to surprise her mother in the grass, develops skills needed for when the cub must hunt on her own.
